Caudimordax

FARMER GILES OF HAM
Caudimordax helping Giles fend off Chrysophylax

Once ago a time, there was a man called Bellomarius, who was the greatest dragon-slayer of all time. Dragons far and wide feared him and his trusty sword, Caudimordax. Indeed, the sword delighted in hurting those poor creatures. It could also track any dragons within a ten-mile radius.

When Bellomarius died, he left behind the Middle Kingdom and Caudimordax. Although his descendants took over the kingdom, they left the sword in the armory to collect dust.

Meanwhile, Farmer Giles led an easy life in the countryside. He was certainly not a hero. However, his fate changed forever, when a giant — a gentle one at that — trespassed upon Ham, the village where Giles lived. Seeing a threat, Giles fired a less-than-deadly gun at the giant. Of course, he didn't flinch; but he did wander off in boredom. However, that led the villagers to proclaim Giles a hero. Word of his heroic deed reached the King, who decided to reward the unsophisticated man with an unsophisticated sword — namely Caudimordax.

Back home, the giant told his mates how he strolled through the once-mighty Middle Kingdom without a scratch. One of them, a greedy dragon named Chrysophylax Dives, then decided to invade the kingdom and take all its gold. As confirmed by the giant, the knights were unable to withstand the dragon's might, for they had lost their edge after many years of peace. There was only one hope left — Giles.

Naturally, Giles was terrified. On the other hand, Caudimordax was eager to battle Chrysophylax, so much so that it refused to be sheathed. Since Giles was the anointed hero, he had no choice but to fight the dragon. Fortunately, Caudimordax was very effective against the dragon — it surrendered to Giles after suffering many cut wounds. It was then easy for Giles to took possession of the treasures the dragon had hoarded over the years — and he lived happily ever after.
