GOD OF WAR
Kratos with the Blade of Olympus |
Zeus, Father of the Olympians, forged the Blade of Olympus. by using his divine powers to invoke the Heavens and the Earth. As such, the sword has specials powers — and is said to be the most powerful weapon.
The Blade of Olympus is a greatsword with a double-edged blade, used primarily for slashing. Its hilt is also uniquely designed. However, its most distinctive characteristic is the bluish glow it emits when activated.
a closer look at the sword |
The Blade of Olympus was a symbol of hope for the Olympians, as they battled against the Titans in the Great War. True to its purpose, Zeus used it to triumph over the Titans, before sealing them in Tartarus. Thereafter, the Blade of Olympus was left unused until Kratos came along. His hatred of the gods led the demigod to kill Ares and take over as the God of War. Eventually, his unruly actions led Zeus to take action.
Zeus impales Kratos |
Zeus reanimated the Colossus of Rhodes to battle Kratos. He then gave the God of War the Blade of Olympus — as a gesture of goodwill — and tricked him into channeling all his powers into the sword. Kratos fell for it, and was incapacitated. It was then easy for Zeus to slay him with the Blade of Olympus, sending him to the Underworld.
Athena stops Kratos |
However, the Titans were watching Kratos’ actions with interest. The Titan Gaia not only helped him escape the Underworld, but also turned back time so he could prevent his death. In the process, he acquired the Blade of Olympus and used it to critically injure Zeus. However, Athena stopped him from delivering the final blow.
Kratos was not to be deterred, as he then led the Titans to Olympus. Although he still had the Blade of Olympus, he was no match for Zeus this time. Not only was he back in the Underworld, Gaia also revealed that he was being manipulated by the Titans all along. However, the revelation only strengthened his resolve.
Kratos vs Perses |
With the Blade of Olympus, Kratos fought his way to Olympus, while killing the Titans Cronos and Perses. In the end, Kratos was able to kill Zeus and Gaia, thus ending the conflict once and for all.
In the aftermath, Kratos chose to sacrifice himself in hopes that his powers would liberate humanity from the gods. However, rumors abound that he survived, though his whereabouts are currently unknown.
