Excalipoor

FINAL FANTASY
Gilgamesh, wielder of Excalipoor
No one knows who forged Excalipoor to look like Excalibur. In any case, it is a longsword, with a grip designed for two-handed use and a double-edged blade. While the sword resembles its legendary counterpart in appearance, it has a different color. Also, since it is a replica, its power pales in comparison to the original sword. Nevertheless, the sword has its own unique flavour — most notably its ability to almost always deal 1 damage to any enemy. Excalipoor surely earned its name with such ineptitude.

Excalipoor’s background is unclear. It is said that — like Excalibur — a king first owned the sword, though his identity is unknown. In any case, he then gave it to Cecil Harvey to aid the Dark Knight in his trial to be a Paladin.

Thereafter, Gilgamesh got his hands on the sword. He was on a quest to obtain the ‘ultimate sword’, and mistook Excalipoor for Excalibur. Consequently, the sword decreases Gilgamesh’s physical prowess whenever he uses it in battle — which is a blessing for his opponents. In fact, Exdeath was so disappointed with Gilgamesh’s performance that he exiled him into the Void.

Fighting Exdeath
The heroes received Excalipoor after defeating Gilgamesh. While the sword may seem useless, it is actually effective against certain monsters. Since it never misses, it is able to one-shot Skull Eaters, which have only 1 HP. There are a few exceptions. Excalipoor deals massive damage when used with Goblin Punch. Also, a Ninja can throw the sword to inflict 9,999 damage to an enemy.

Jidoor Auction House
After the heroes defeated Exdeath and saved the world, Excalipoor was lost for a time. However, it reappeared at the Auction House in Jidoor. It could be bought for 500,000 gil after a person outside talked about a ‘cool-looking sword’. The heroes could then wager it at the Dragon Neck Coliseum. Doing so would draw out Gilgamesh, since he wanted to take back his sword. If the heroes win the fight, they would earn Gilgamesh’s allegiance, and be allowed to summon the esper in battle.

Excalipoor in Final Fantasy XIII-2

The heroes were able to thwart Kefka’s plan to fashion the world in his own twisted image. In the aftermath, they returned Excalipoor to Gilgamesh. He wielded the sword for a time against many foes. Unfortunately, the heroes would take it again by defeating him in the Gilgamesh Hunt. Such a cycle would repeat itself, with Excalipoor exchanging hands on many occasions.
