THE ELRIC SAGA
Elric Melniboné, drugged by Stormbringer’s power |
Stormbringer was a demon shaped into a sword by unholy sorcery. Indeed, its shadowy blade, engraved with sinister runes, attested to its foul powers. It provided its user with unimaginable strength, allowing him to dispatch any mortal foe. An injury caused by the sword is likely to be fatal. However, its power comes with a price— Stormbringer had to constantly consume souls. As such, its user was forced to kill on a regular basis.
Such was Elric’s tragic life. While Elric was the Emperor of Melniboné and cared for his people, he was physically weak. He also suffered from albinism, which made him vulnerable to sickness and injuries. Making matters worse, the other nobles scorned him for his moral views on the society's decadence. Consequently, Elric discovered that his cousin, Yyrkoon, was plotting to usurp his throne. Meanwhile, the Young Kingdoms were gaining in power. The differences between the Melniboné and humans could lead to conflicts. In the end, such circumstances made him desperate for power — and led him to Stormbringer.

Thereafter, there was no turning back. Stormbringer's powers were like a drug, impossible to resist. Furthermore, the sword cured all his physical deficiencies, while endowing him with a healthiness he had never experienced before. Consequently, Elric was forced to take lives so as to sustain the sword — and himself. However, he deemed Stormbringer a ‘necessary evil’ to achieve his goals.
Elric used Stormbringer to defeat many foes. He even saved the world. In the end, the sword took his soul and transformed him into a demon. Thereafter, Stormbringer looked to find someone who would provide it with even more souls — and entertainment.
