Dragonslayer

BERSERK
Guts, the Black Swordsman
Dragonslayer got its name when the King requested the famous blacksmith Godo to make a sword capable of slaying a dragon. Of course, given the size of a dragon, the sword turned out to be a gigantic zwëihander. It was so heavy that no normal human could lift it, much less wield it effectively. As a result, the King was furious, and wanted to punish Godo for disappointing him. Fearing for his life, Godo went into hiding.

Dragonslayer
Over time, the Dragonslayer lay forgotten in Godo’s cottage —until Guts appeared. Back then, Guts was called the Black Swordsman. Although he was a skilled swordsman, he was cold and merciless, due his tormented past. Guts sought revenge against Griffith, who was the leader of the Band of Hawk and his former best friend. Unfortunately, Griffith was so corrupted with power that he sacrificed the lives of his friends in order to acquire the God Hand’s powers.

Guts travelled to Godo’s cottage with the intention of acquiring a sword capable of defeating Griffith. However, it sword that Godo provided proved useless — a demon shattered the sword easily when it attacked Guts at Godo’s cottage. Desperate, Guts spotted the Dragonslayer in the corner; picked it up; and killed the demon in a single swing. The Dragonslayer has finally found a warrior worthy enough to wield it.

Guts and Griffith
Although Guts has no magical abilities, his sheer strength and power allows him to slice through the toughest armor with the Dragonslayer. Consequently, he has battled and slayed many demons and saved countless innocent lives. Besides demons, Guts has also wielded the sword against supernatural beings. Ironically, the Dragonslayer has yet to be slay a dragon, despite its name.
