Buster Sword

FINAL FANTASY 7
Angeal Hewley, first wielder

The Buster Sword is identifiable due to its enormous size. Indeed, only a massive broadsword could cleave through injustice and corruption. It almost never misses its target, and is modifiable with Materia.

The Buster Sword is intricately linked to events surrounding the Jenova Project — using cells of Jenova, an alien entity, to create super-soldiers. It was developed by the Shinra Company, which sought to take over the world.
Angeal Hewley was born from the project, although he was kept in the dark most of his life. Growing up, he valued honor above anything else.

Angeal's parents used all their savings and got him the Buster Sword after he was selected for SOLDIER, Shinra’s elite fighting force. As such, he treasured the sword greatly, so much he rarely used it even though he was a talented swordsman. Alas, he lost his soul and turned into a monster when he finally learnt of his origins. In the end he besought Zack Fair, his prodigy, to destroy him. Zack did so, and received the Buster Sword — so as to carry on his master's legacy.

However, it wasn't long before Sephiroth, a 1st-Class SOLDIER, discovered he was created by the Jenova project. Rather than denying his fate, he accepted it — and went on a rampage while on a mission in Nibelheim.  Zack and Cloud Strife, a hero-to-be, were there when it happened. They stopped Sephiroth, but were subsequently captured — to be guinea pigs in Shinra’s experiments. Fortunately, they were able to escape from Shinra’s clutches, with Zack fighting his way through with the Buster Sword.

Zack was desperate to return to his beloved Aerith Gainsborough. However,  Shinra troops ambushed them while they travelling to Midgar. Again, Zack was the one to save the day. Sadly, he sacrificed his life to allow Cloud to survive. Before he died, Zack gave Cloud the Buster Sword — so that he could stop Shinra and Sephiroth from destroying the world.
