Sword of Truth

THE SWORD OF TRUTH
Sword of Truth, Stone of Tears

As the saying goes, truth can both enlighten and destroy. A Seeker of Truth represents the truth of all things. He is gifted with insight from birth. He is also capable of ascertaining the absolute answer in any given situation. However, what makes a Seeker of Truth stand out is his courage  — to use the truth to help the people and save them from tyrants and villains.

Sword of Truth

While a Seeker of Truth is respected, some tried to kill him so as to protect their self-interest. As such, the First Wizard bestowed the Sword of Truth upon the Seeker of Truth. The sword is almost indestructible, making it invaluable in physical combat. It is also enchanted to protect its wielder from magic, and has other magical properties, such as warning its wielder of danger. As a safeguard, the sword is unable to hurt an innocent. The Sword of Truth can only be activated by a Seeker of Truth's righteous anger, whereupon its blade glows red.

Although using the Sword of Truth requires anger, such a destructive emotion drains a Seeker of Truth physically and mentally. The sword can only reach its full power when the Seeker of Truth is able to forgive — and fight with love. When that happens, the blade glows white, and he becomes the True Seeker. The True Seeker is able to unlock the Boxes of Orden with the Sword of Truth, granting him the power to protect all life.

Richard Rahl and his Mord-Sith companion Cara Mason

Richard Rahl is the only man to be recognized as the True Seeker. He wielding the Sword of Truth against many foes. In particular, he killed Darken Rahl, his own father, when he sought to obtain the Boxes of Orden and refashion the world into his own twisted image. In the end,  Richard used the Boxes of Orden to create a world untainted by magic — thus ending a long-standing conflict between wizards and non-wizards.
