The High Heavens and the Burning Hells were engaged in a war that has lasted for eons. Izual was the Archangel of Justice’s most trusted warrior. He wielded Azurewrath, a long sword blessed with the power of righteousness, which gives its blade a bluish brilliance. With Azurewrath, he was able to win many battles against the demons. However, he became arrogant by his victories — leading to his downfall.
As such, Izual launched a surprise attack on the Hellforge, confident that he could stop the forging of a demonblade. However, Azurewrath was useless — for he fell to the Prime Evils’ corruption. Tainted, Izual turned into a Fallen Angel, and the sword was lost. Over time, Azurewrath gained legendary status. Only the strongest warriors could obtain it.
Before he fell, Izual was the bearer of the runeblade Azurewrath, an ancient sword blessed by the Song of the Arch as an instrument of the righteous.

The sword's attribute is ice, adding both cold damage and % chance to freeze on hit. Indeed, with the right gear it is capable of perma-freezing enemies. As such, Azurewrath is highly sought after, especially by Enchantresses and Templars. Also, its stats are randomized. Those with the highest stats are consequently the rarest — acquired only by warriors blessed by Lady Luck.
