Callandor

THE WHEEL OF TIME
Rand al’Thor protecting his lover from one of the Forsaken

The Breaking of the World ended the Age of Legends, engulfing the world in chaos.  The Dark One’s taint corrupted the male Aes Sedai — chosen ones who were able to wield the One Power. Even the Dragon — the Light One — was not spared from the madness. However, a shred of hope remained — those who survived long enough had forged powerful artifacts of the One Power for the Third Age.

Out of all the artifacts created, Callandor was the most powerful, so much so that an entire fortress was constructed to protect it. The sword laid there for three thousand years, before Rand al’Thor — the Dragon Reborn — claimed it as his own.

Callandor

Callandor takes the form of a crystal sword. It may look fragile, but Callandor has the ability to augment the powers of a male Aes Sedai, allowing him to tap into the infinite source of the One Power. At its weakest, a single swing of Callandor can destroy an entire army. However, the Aes Sedai, while powerful, will still be killed by an influx of the One Power. As such, artifacts of the One Power have safeguards that limit the power drawn. Callandor though, imposes no such limitations. This makes it potentially lethal to the user, but also allows for endless possibilities. Such effects could be mitigated if the user is assisted by two female Aes Sedai to control the flow of the One Power. However, Rand has shown that Callandor could be used even without a woman’s touch in his battles against the Forsaken — Aes Sedai serving the Dark One.

Unfortunately, the longer Rand uses Callandor, the more likely he is to be corrupted by the Dark One’s taint. As prophesied, the Dragon Reborn could save or destroy the world. Which would be his choice?
