Mournblade

THE ELRIC SAGA
Stormbringer

Two swords existed within the Melniboné Kingdom — Mournblade and Stormbringer. Both have special powers, since they were once from demons. Morunblade endows its user with unholy strength, allowing him to win almost any battle. However, the sword needs to feed on souls so as to sustain itself. As such, it would not hesitate to drive its user into a killing spree. Mournblade also delighted in the suffering of others.

While a sword is forged in metal, Mournblade is made from ebony, and infused with dark sorcery. Also, t
he black wood gives the sword a sinister appearance. Mournblade is less of a physical weapon, and used more for its powers. The inscriptions on its blade — which have yet to be deciphered — give off  an eerie glow.

Mournblade

Yyrkoon welcomed Mournblade's dark powers. He was the cousin of Elric, the Emperor of Melniboné. As a sorcerer, he would use any means necessary to increase his powers. Also, Yyrkoon sought to usurp the throne, as he deemed Elric too weak to rule the kingdom.

However, Elric learnt of Yyrkoon’s plot. Their conflict finally led to a battle to the death. Although Yyrkoon had Mournblade, Elric wielded Stormbringer — the only sword in the kingdom that is able to destroy Mournblade. In the end, Yyrkoon was no match for Elric.

After Yyrkoon's death, Mournblade was lost in the netherworld. However, the sword later resurfaced, to be wielded by Elric’s kin, Dyvim Slorm. It was later revealed that there are many swords like Mournblade and Stormbringer. Also, only the Melniboné bloodline can wield such swords to defeat
the forces of Hell and Chaos.
