| Martin’s Sword |
As the saying goes, never judge a mouse by its stature. Martin is a mouse with a strong sense of right and wrong, and never hesitated to punish injustice. He received Martin’s Sword from his father, Luke the Warrior. Luke hoped that his son would grow up to be a fine warrior. While Martin fulfilled his father’s aspirations, he also suffered many hardships growing up. Indeed, he realized his powerlessness after his closest friends were killed.

| Badrang the Tyrant |
One fateful day, Badrang the Tyrant captured Martin, and took his sword. Badrang ruled with an iron fist, and had enslaved many creatures. Martin escaped, and met Rose for the first time. Over time, the two mice fell in love. However, it wasn't to last, for Rose was killed by Badrang at the Battle of Marshank. Martin was devastated. It was no surprise that he led the other slaves to fight against Badrang. After a fierce battle, Martin killed the tyrant, and reclaimed Martin’s Sword.

| Tsarmina Greeneyes |
Sadly, the loss of his love was engraved in his heart forever. Thereafter, Martin abhorred tyranny. In that regard, he was reckless; always giving his all; always throwing himself headfirst into battle. As such, when the wildcat Tsarmina Greeneyes, who ruled over the inhabitants of Mosswood with cruelty, Martin had to fight back. Unfortunately, he was captured, but managed to escape soon after. Martin’s Sword was not so lucky — as it was shattered by Tsarmina.

| Redwall Abbey, Martin’s Legacy |
Martin was devastated by the loss of his father’s keepsake. Fortunately, Boar the Fighter was able to reforge Martin’s Sword, using a metal — deemed to be indestructible — that was mined from a meteorite ore. The newly-forged sword made Martin more powerful than ever. He went on to defeat Tsarmina, thus freeing the inhabitants of Mosswood. He then made Mosswood his home, and set up Redwall Abbey as part of his legacy.
After Martin's death, Martin’s Sword was hidden in Redwall, to be used by a hero in times of danger. As such, when Cluny the Scourge attacked Redwall, it was up to Matthias — a courageous and strong-willed mouse — to seek out Martin’s Sword and use it to save the inhabitants of Redwall.
