THE SWORD OF SHANNARA
The Sword of Shannara is used exclusively by the Elven King's bloodline, and powered by the Eilt Druin, the Druids' legacy. Although a legendary sword, it is useless as a weapon, since its sole purpose is to destroy lies and reveal the truth in all things. Mastery of the Sword of Shannara requires one to face his own weaknesses.

The Druid Brona was corrupted by Ildatch, the unholy book. His thirst for power led him to betray and slaughter the First Druid Council, before declaring himself the Warlock Lord. The Druid Bremen was one of the few survivors with the means to defeat Brona — for he was able to acquire the Eilt Druin from the ruins of the Druid Council. However, his power alone wasn't enough. As such, he sought out the Druid Cogline, who possessed knowledge of old sciences, and the legendary blacksmith, Urprox Screl. Together, they forged the Sword of Shannara. Its hilt is imbued with the Eilt, giving the sword magical attributes.
Bremen gave the Sword of Shannara to the Elven King, Jerle Shannara, from whom it was named. The Elves were the most powerful race at that time. As such, Bremen hoped that the Sword of Shannara would lead Jerle and his people to victory against the Warlock Lord. Unfortunately, the Sword of Shannara revealed Jerle's weaknesses — right when Jerle was about to kill the Warlock Lord. Consequently, Jerle failed to destroy the Warlock Lord completely, as he was unable to accept the truth about himself.
Shea Ohmsford discovers the Sword of Shannara

The Warlock Lord escaped. He then bidded his time, consolidating his powers over the centuries. This time, he wasn't going to let anything or anyone stand in his way. As such, he stole the Sword of Shannara and tried to kill Shea Ohmsford, Jerle Shannara's descendant. However, Shea Ohmsford lived with the help of the Druid Allanon. In the end, Shea recovered the Sword of Shannara. He then fought the Warlord Lock, just as Jerle had done before him.
Shea was strong-willed. Hence, he was able to master the Sword of Shannara. On the other hand, the Warlock Lord was helpless when faced with his own mortality — leading to his demise.
