Kirito unleashes the Dual Blades skill

Dark Repulser was wielded by Kirito in Sword Art Online (SAO). He was trapped in the game with the other players by its creator, Kayaba Akihiko. To escape, he had to clear all 100 levels and defeat increasingly formidable monsters. Kirito had obtained Elucidator — a powerful sword — after defeating the boss on the 50th floor. However, it was not long before he gained the Dual Blades skill, and needed another sword that is just as powerful.

A warm summer’s day marked the prelude to the forging of Dark Repulser. Kirito was introduced to Lisbeth by Asuna, his love interest. Despite her age, Lisbeth is actually a master swordsmith. However, her pride took a blow after Kirito easily destroyed one of her prized swords with his sword.

To restore her pride, Lisbeth was determined to forge a sword with Crystallite Ingot — one that would surpass Kirito's. Such high-grade material could only be found in the Ice Dragon's lair, which was where they went. Unfortunately, the dragon was disturbed by their arrival and attacked them. In the midst of battle, the pair fell into a pit, which was a blessing in disguise — for they found the ingot there. Thereafter, they were able to escape. 

During that time, Lisbeth had fallen in love with Kirito. However, Asuna was her best friend. As such, she couldn't bring herself to confess her feelings. Instead, she channeled her one-sided love into forging Dark Repulser. The sword turned out to be masterpiece. As a sign of gratitude, Kirito activated the Dual Blades skill — for the first time — in front of Lisbeth.

Dark Repulser

Dark Repulser is classified as a one-handed sword, used primarily as a slashing weapon. Once equipped, Kirito gained bonuses to strength and agility. The sword could be reinforced to +40, a feat later achieved by Lisbeth at Kirito’s request.

Dark Repulser and Elucidator were invaluable in many battles. Kirito had stepped in to save a group of players after a boss raid gone wrong. However, he was overpowered by a boss, and in grave danger. Just as he was about to be killed, he was able to activate the Dual Blades skill, unleashing a 42-hit combo which defeated the boss.

Kirito last wielded Dark Repulser against Kayaba. With it, he prevailed against SAO’s creator after a fierce battle. While the sword was destroyed, Kirito’s story is far from over, as he gets involved in events that are beyond his control...
