Valmanway

Valmanway is a one-handed sword first wielded by Desmond Belmont. Although it is considered a unique sword, it has taken on many different forms in the past. The sword is also known as Crissaegrim.

Valmanway literally translate to ‘Blessed Wind’. Although it is a wind-type weapon, it does not deal extra damage since no known enemies are weak against wind. Its ability is described as ‘a bladed vortex that slices enemies to pieces’. Indeed, a single swing of the sword hits an enemy up to 4 times, dealing damage in quick succession. The fact that the sword can be wielded even on the move makes it extremely versatile and time-effective.

Some have classified Valmanway as a backsword, since it is single-edged and straight-bladed. Aside from the fact that the sword was forged before the late 1600s, nothing else is known about its origins. Nevertheless, it is one of the most sought-after swords due to its utility in battle.

Valmanway’s attack power ranges from +2 to +36. It can also be upgraded to +1, thereby upping its damage. The sword can be acquired in many ways. It is most commonly dropped by monsters and bosses. In such instances, luck and patience is required, as one usually has to kill a specific enemy countless times before it drops the sword. Some of these enemies include Minotaur, Astarte and Legion.

Soma Cruz and Alucard have also used it to great effect, as they attempted to prevent Dracula’s resurrection on a few occasions. Alucard has even dual-wielded Valmanway once, after he acquired two of them from killing Schmoos. Consequently, he became unstoppable, so much so that he defeated Dracula in less than a minute.

Soma had to upgrade his short sword 9 times before he finally obtained Valmanway. For each upgrade, a specific soul was needed, with Valmanway requiring an Abaddon Soul. The effort was worth it, for the sword was not only powerful, but gained an aura that increased its attack range.
